Location:
Tirupati town is 67-km from Chittoor in Chittoor district, the southern portion of Andhra Pradesh. The most important place of interest at the place is the historic shrine of Sri Venkateswara, the Lord of Seven Hills, who is famous all over the country.

History:
The Puranic conception of the hill is that it represents the body of Adisesha (a seven hooded serpent) the seven hills being his seven heads, on top of which Lord Vishnu the protector of the world rests. One of the most important pilgrimage centers in India, the temple draws millions of pilgrims and is believed to be the busiest pilgrimage centre in the world.

The Magnificent Temple:
The temple of Tirupati Balaji in south India is one of the most revered and sacred shrines in the country. Millions of devotees visit the temple to seek to blessings of Lord Vishnu-the patron deity of the temple.

The shrine is a unique example of the Dravidian architecture. The temple has an exquisitely carved Gopuram facing the east. The Vimana is completely covered with the gold plate, Ananda Nilayam.

The annual festival, which attracts thousands of pilgrims from all over the country, is observed in September.

Situated by the side of the temple is a sacred tank, known as Swamy Pushkarani, where many pilgrims take a holy dip before going to the temple. The shrine of Varaha Murthy, the original deity of Tirumala, is situated here.

Tirupati Darshan:
The pilgrims visit and pay homage to Adivaraha idol in the Sri Varaha Swami Temple, situated on the banks of the tank before visiting Sri Venkateswara Temple. The devotees stand in line for hours together to obtain a glimpse of the presiding deity for a few fleeting seconds. Different darshans are arranged for the convenience of the pilgrims,

It is an engrossing place where you can spend one whole day just wandering about.

Weather check:
Tirupati-Balaji normally has a very hot and humid climate. The temperature reaches a high of 40°C during summers, while it touches a low of 15°C during winters. The best time to visit Tirupati-Balaji is during the winter season, between September and February.

Transport connectivity:
» Air: The nearest airport is at Tirupati.

» Rail: Tirupati is the nearest railway station. There are trains that travel via Renigunta or Gudur, but do not touch Tirupati. In such cases, Renigunta (just 10-km from Tirupati) or Gudur (100-km from Tirupati), are convenient points to alight. From Renigunta/Gudur, one can reach Tirupati by train, bus, or taxi.

» Buses: APSRTC buses run from all the important places in the state and between Tirupati and Tirumala. TTD also runs buses between Tirupati and Tirumala, free of cost. Taxis are also available over here.
