  Calangute Beach
Calangute, the "Queen of Beaches" is the haven for the beach combers across the world. Situated on the shores of the Arabian Sea, the Calangute Beach is located in the north of the emerald green state of Goa in India. The beach, just 15 km from Panjim, the capital of the state of Goa is bounded by Arpora-Nagoa, Saligao and Candolim, in the Bardez taluka of Goa. The place is mos ideal for a peaceful getaway.

History Unfolds
It was in the late 60s when, the hippies were the one who discovered the pristine & serene surroundings of Calangute. The word Calangute, owes its origination from several words which are - 'Koli-gutti', (means land of fishermen); some people associates the name with Kalyangutti (village of art) or Konvallo-ghott (strong pit of the coconut tree), as coconut trees are abundantly found here. After the migration of the Portuguese to Goa, the word eventually got distorted to Calangute and till date remains to be called so.

Church of St Alex
The Church of St Alex is a must visit pace in Goa. With its two majestic towers and a dome with a magnificent charm gracing the facade, the Church of St. Alex boasts of an aesthetic beauty that is displayed on its architectural style and elaborately decorated altars. The church celebrated the fourth centenary of its parish church in 1996. People come to the place from far of places.

The Kerkar Art Complex in this part of Goa is another place of attraction for the tourists in Goa India. The art complex, showcasing numerous art forms of India is one of its kind on this beach. This venue is very popular among the local artistes who come here to exhibit their arts and crafts. On Thursdays and Fridays, the art complex becomes more lively with connoisseurs of Indian classical music and dance gives live performances.

Water Sports
Baga BeachIn addition to its various places of tourist's interest, the beach at Calangute is also visited by the adventure lovers, who throng this place for various water sports activities. Calangute beach in Goa offers para-sailing, water skiing and wind surfing which starts in the afternoon when the wind is blowing in the right direction and it continues till sunset.

Climate
The climate at Calangute is moderate throughout the year with little fluctuations in the temperature. Though winter is not very chilling, you might require light woolens. April and May are warm here and time between June & October brings heavy rain (320 cm). The summer temperature ranges from 24°C to 32.7°C and during winters, from 21.3°C to 32.2°C.
The period from November to February is the most pleasant for all types of tourist to visit this beach.

Wheels to Calangute
» By Air : The nearest airport is at Dabolim, which is 29 km away from Panaji.

» By Road : Calangute beach is a just 30 min bus ride up the coast from Panaji, the capital of Goa. There are frequent buses to Panaji and Mapusa from Calangute. Mapusa is about 8 km away from Calangute.

» By Rail : The nearest railway station is at Karmali, which is 11 km away from Panaji. Panaji is just half an hour's drive away from Calangute. Private transportation facilities - deluxe, semi-deluxe and ordinary - are also available at the railway station here.
